Job Summary

This position is responsible for the maintenance and operations of EJ Cooperatives Wastewater Treatment Facilities (WWTF), sewer collection systems, 9 Lagoon systems and 12 sewage lift stations and one Activated Sludge removal system Industrial Pretreatment Program ensuring compliance with all federal and state environmental requirements. This position requires broad knowledge of wastewater treatment practices and principles, and experience in the design, construction, operation and maintenance of wastewater treatment, collection, and pretreatment facilities.

Location: Headquarters are located in Dieterich, IL. However, Operator will be managing systems throughout multiple counties.

Schedule: 7am-3pm, Monday-Friday

Pay: $30.00-$35.00/HR (Based on Experience)

Licensing and Certification:

  • An Illinois Class I Wastewater Treatment License is required.
  • Class A Water Treatment license would be preferred, but not required.
  • Must have thorough knowledge of lagoon systems and be comfortable managing them.
  • Must hold a valid State of Illinois driver’s license and possess a safe driving record.
  • Must be able to attend and complete all required safety training requirements and certifications including but not limited to confined space entry, CPR/AED, ICS, fall protection, and flagger/traffic safety.


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Requires strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Advanced knowledge of methods, practices, and techniques used to operate an Advanced Biological Nutrient Removal (BNR) wastewater treatment and collections system.
  • Knowledge of pretreatment devices, Enzyme addition, Aeration equipment.
  • Advanced knowledge of wastewater system operation, maintenance, and regulatory requirements including NPDES and Sludge Land Application regulations.
  • Requires strong computer skills to include working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite and SCADA.
  • Advanced knowledge of emergency response procedures and disaster response; have ability follow and execute emergency assistance when called upon.
  • Knowledge of the operation and maintenance requirements of pumps, motors, electrical machinery, mechanical equipment, and control equipment.
  • Ability to work well with others, establish strong working relationships, and use tact and diplomacy in communications with staff members and the public.
  • Working knowledge of potential hazards and applicable safety regulations, safe work practices, and required safety equipment.
  • Skill in effectively planning, developing, scheduling, assigning, coordinating, and evaluating operation and maintenance programs, activities and personnel.
  • Ability to maintain records and prepare activity reports.
  • Intermediate Computer Skills in the following programs:
  • Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).

 

Work Environment and Physical Demands:

  • This position requires fieldwork where the employee is exposed to outdoor weather and industrial-type noise conditions.
  • Frequently works near moving mechanical parts and in outside weather conditions.
  • Occasionally works in high precarious places and is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals and vibration.
  • Climbing and bending at the waist, crawling, kneeling, reaching, pushing, pulling and working at heights.
  • Reaching overhead, above the shoulders and horizontally.
  • Constantly requires clarity of speech and hearing, which permits the employee to communicate effectively.
  • Constantly requires clear vision to read printed materials and computer screen to accomplish work.
  • The employee may be exposed to biohazards including sewage.
  • Requires driving a motor vehicle.
  • Occasionally is exposed to risk of electrical shock.
  • Occasionally requires lifting and moving up to 50 pounds.
