Welcome to EJ Water!

Located in Dieterich, Illinois, EJ Water Cooperative, Inc. was incorporated in June of 1989.The first phase built in 1993 served 480 households and involved construction of 100 miles of water mains.

Since these humble beginnings, EJ Water Cooperative, Inc. has developed into a seven-county regional water system, serving members in Effingham, Jasper, Clay, Cumberland, Richland, Shelby and Fayette Counties. It is one of the fastest growing water systems in the State of Illinois. The system currently has over 1,200 miles of water mains and has over 7,100 members.  We serve a population base of approximately 19,800.  We also wholesale water to the Villages of Clay City, Dieterich, Edgewood, Louisville, Mason, St. Peter, and Watson. E J also has interconnects with Effingham, Newton, and Hardinville Water Company.

The E J Water Board of Directors is dedicated to serving as many unserved members as possible. Each phase brings the water mains a little closer to those unserved members. EJ is currently in the process of constructing Phase 20.

EJ Water has over 25 full and part-time staff. EJ  still works closely with USDA Rural Development and the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO) as its main funding source.
