Freezing Pipes and Meters
Friday, January 5th, 2018
We understand some people like to go away for the winter and with the weather that we’ve had lately, who could blame you! If you are a snowbird or have an abandoned home on your property with water service remember to have someone check the property regularly for frozen pipes or a frozen meter.
With the frigid temps that we’ve had it is common for the pipes in homes with little or no heat to freeze up and bust. It is possible for the water meters to freeze also. As the temperatures rise and the pipes thaw flooding can occur and cause damage, not to mention a high water bill.
Things to check for:
1. Pipes under the sinks (kitchen and bathroom)
2. Outside faucets or hydrants
3. Sump pump running often
4. Water or ice around the meter pit
